This Week’s Creative Finds: In with the New

    New Discoveries:

Finding resources that support the multifaceted role of motherhood is key to managing the daily juggle of tasks, from parenting and homemaking to self-care and education. Here are three websites that offer a wealth of information, ideas, and community support tailored for moms:

Scary Mommy Scary Mommy started as a personal blog and has evolved into one of the most inclusive and no-holds-barred communities for parents on the internet. It covers everything from pregnancy and parenting to relationships and personal wellness. The site is known for its honest, funny, and often heartwarming content that resonates with a wide audience of moms looking for both advice and a good laugh.

The Kitchn While not exclusively for moms, The Kitchn is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to feed their family. It offers a plethora of recipes ranging from quick 30-minute meals to elaborate holiday feasts, alongside tips for meal planning, food budgeting, and kitchen organization. Its community forums and how-to guides make it a great site for both novice cooks and seasoned home chefs.

Common Sense Media In the digital age, navigating what’s appropriate for children to watch, play, or interact with online can be daunting. Common Sense Media provides detailed reviews and age recommendations for movies, TV shows, books, apps, and games, making it easier for parents to make informed decisions about the media their children consume. Additionally, it offers advice on parenting in the digital age, covering topics such as screen time management and online safety.

Here are a couple of interesting books I’ve recently discovered.

For the Little Ones: Escargot and the Search for Spring by Dashka Slater (Author)  Sydney Hanson (Illustrator)

For the Moms: Everything is Figure Outable – by Marie Farleo

‘While most self-help books offer quick fixes, Everything is Figureoutable will retrain your brain to think more creatively and positively in the face of setbacks. In the words of Cheryl Strayed, it’s “a must-read for anyone who wants to face their fears, fulfill their dreams, and find a better way forward.”‘

I’m not quite through this one, but this book has hands-on exercises, which add to the experience and get you thinking about your life, choices, and dreams. It is very eye-opening.

    Homemaking Harmony:

One of the perpetual challenges in our home has been keeping the floors clean and free from dust lint and crumbs, which seem to accumulate faster than I can keep up with. Between our daughter coming in and out, to the man of the house bringing his work (dirt) home, finding a cleaning tool that could keep pace with our busy household felt almost impossible.

That was until I discovered the “flippr” – a cleverly designed broom that transforms into a cordless vacuum at the flick of a wrist. This innovative tool has been a game-changer for us. Not only does it allow for quick sweeps, but with its easy transformation, picking up larger debris or tackling unexpected messes has never been simpler. It’s streamlined our cleaning routine, making our home feel more manageable and leaving us with more time to enjoy the moments that matter most. For any family feeling overwhelmed by the daily dance of dirt and debris, the “flippr” might just be the helping hand you’ve been waiting for.

    Craft Corner:

My daughter received a “dot painting” craft kit a little while back. She has decided this is the week she wants to do ALL the dot paintings… every day. It’s a lot. :/ But, she enjoys it, so it’s worth the mess.

I will say that this particular set only comes with tiny little bottles of paint. She barely got through the paper and canvas that were provided in the kit before the paint ran out. But, we shook as much of that paint out of those little bottles as we possibly could.

Tempura paint is easily washable until it fully dries. This is why I believe that it is a great choice for children’s arts & crafts.

I don’t think our set is worth the price since the paint ran out so quickly. I am linking to a set of tempura paints, art scrapers, and watercolor paper. This way you can create your own set and the paint will last much longer.

Easter Leftovers Makeover: Delicious Ways to Repurpose Your Feast

    Easter Leftovers

(Some of the images in this post are created with AI)

Hello Crafty moms, let’s jump right in!

    Easter Leftovers Makeover

Easter dinner, with its abundance of flavors, often leaves us with a fridge full of leftovers. While the original meal is always a hit, finding creative ways to repurpose those leftovers can be a bit of a head-scratcher. Fear not! Today, we’re diving into some fun and delicious ways to give your Easter dinner a second life. Let’s turn those leftovers into dishes that will keep the family coming back for more, without feeling like they’re stuck in a Groundhog Day of holiday eating.

    Easter leftovers dinner

    1. Savory Ham and Cheese Quiches

Transform leftover ham into mini quiches that are perfect for breakfast or a light lunch. Chop the ham into small pieces, and mix with eggs, cheese, and your choice of vegetables. Pour into muffin tins for individual servings and bake until golden. These bite-sized delights are not only easy to make but also freeze well for future quick meals.

    2. Refreshing Spring Salad

Give a new life to leftover roasted vegetables by adding them to a fresh spring salad. Mix greens like spinach or arugula with your roasted veggies, add some nuts for crunch, and perhaps some feta or goat cheese for a creamy element. Drizzle with a light vinaigrette for a refreshing side dish that screams spring.

    3. Creative Easter Pizza

Who doesn’t love pizza? Use your leftover ham or lamb as a topping on a homemade pizza. Spread your favorite sauce on a pizza base, add cheese, and then get creative with the toppings—leftover meats, veggies, and even some pineapple for a sweet twist. It’s a fantastic way to let the kids help with dinner and get creative with their toppings.

    4. Hearty Shepherd’s Pie

If you find yourself with leftover lamb, shepherd’s pie is a comforting dish that the whole family can enjoy. Mix the chopped lamb with veggies (fresh or leftovers work great) and some gravy or tomato sauce. Top with mashed potatoes (another great leftover repurpose!) and bake until the top is crispy. It’s a hearty meal that brings warmth and comfort.

    5. Soup’s On!

Leftover veggies and ham can find a new home in a hearty soup. Sauté onions and garlic, then add chopped leftovers along with broth, and let simmer. Puree for a smooth texture or leave chunky for a more rustic feel. Serve with a dollop of sour cream or some fresh herbs for an extra touch of flavor.

    6. Easter Bread Pudding

Don’t forget about dessert! Leftover Easter bread or any sweet bread can be transformed into a delicious bread pudding. Mix pieces of bread with eggs, milk, sugar, and spices like cinnamon or vanilla. Bake until set and serve with a drizzle of caramel or a scoop of ice cream for a delightful end to any meal.

Let’s Get Creative with Easter Leftovers!

These ideas are just the beginning. The key to repurposing leftovers is creativity and a willingness to experiment. Encourage your kids to suggest ideas or help with the cooking—it’s a wonderful way to spend time together and instill a love for crafting meals, just like we craft our projects.

Remember, the goal is not just to use up leftovers but to create meals that bring joy and satisfaction to your family’s table. With a little creativity, those Easter leftovers can turn into meals that are eagerly anticipated rather than dutifully eaten.

Until next time, happy crafting—both in your projects and in your kitchens!

I’d love to hear how you get creative with your Easter leftovers! Share your ideas and tips in the comments below to inspire our crafty community.

    • Lemon slices and lavender sprigs, for garnish

    Instructions:

    1. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add sugar and dried lavender; stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for about 20 minutes.
    2. Strain the lavender from the mixture and pour it into a large pitcher. Add the lemon juice and the remaining 2 cups of water. Stir well.
    3. Refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice, garnished with lemon slices and a sprig of lavender for that extra touch of elegance.

    • Extra cucumber slices and mint leaves, for garnish

    Instructions:

    1. In a pitcher, muddle the cucumber slices, mint leaves, and sugar together. You want to gently press them to release the flavors, not completely mash them.
    2. Add the lime juice and sparkling water. Stir gently to combine.
    3. Fill glasses with ice and pour the sparkler over. Garnish with extra cucumber slices and mint leaves.

Hack: For an adult version, a splash of gin or vodka transforms this refreshing sparkler into a sophisticated cocktail, perfect for toasting to family, friends, and the joys of spring.

These drink options, from the soothing floral notes of the Lavender Lemonade to the crisp, refreshing taste of the Cucumber Mint Sparkler, are designed to complement the flavors of your Easter feast and cater to a variety of preferences. Now that our tops are sorted, let’s move down to the second half of our outfits – bottoms. Spring calls for a blend of comfort and style, so let’s explore a few key pieces to enhance this section:

Versatile Denim Shorts: Invest in a pair of versatile denim shorts that can take you from running errands to a casual brunch with friends. Choose a length that suits your comfort level, and don’t shy away from distressed or embroidered details for an extra dash of flair.
