This Week’s Creative Finds: In with the New
New Discoveries:
Finding resources that support the multifaceted role of motherhood is key to managing the daily juggle of tasks, from parenting and homemaking to self-care and education. Here are three websites that offer a wealth of information, ideas, and community support tailored for moms:
Scary Mommy Scary Mommy started as a personal blog and has evolved into one of the most inclusive and no-holds-barred communities for parents on the internet. It covers everything from pregnancy and parenting to relationships and personal wellness. The site is known for its honest, funny, and often heartwarming content that resonates with a wide audience of moms looking for both advice and a good laugh.
The Kitchn While not exclusively for moms, The Kitchn is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to feed their family. It offers a plethora of recipes ranging from quick 30-minute meals to elaborate holiday feasts, alongside tips for meal planning, food budgeting, and kitchen organization. Its community forums and how-to guides make it a great site for both novice cooks and seasoned home chefs.
Common Sense Media In the digital age, navigating what’s appropriate for children to watch, play, or interact with online can be daunting. Common Sense Media provides detailed reviews and age recommendations for movies, TV shows, books, apps, and games, making it easier for parents to make informed decisions about the media their children consume. Additionally, it offers advice on parenting in the digital age, covering topics such as screen time management and online safety.
These websites offer a blend of practical advice, emotional support, and useful tools to help moms navigate the joys and challenges of motherhood. Whether you’re looking for parenting tips, meal ideas, or guidance on digital parenting, these resources are worth exploring.
Book Nook: Out with the Old in with the New
Recommended Reads:
Here are a couple of interesting books I’ve recently discovered.
For the Little Ones: Escargot and the Search for Spring by Dashka Slater (Author) Sydney Hanson (Illustrator)
“Bonjour! After a long winter spent indoors, Escargot can’t wait to look outside for the first signs of Spring. Will he find a new friend in the fluffy white bunny he meets along the way?”
For the Moms: Everything is Figure Outable – by Marie Farleo
‘While most self-help books offer quick fixes, Everything is Figureoutable will retrain your brain to think more creatively and positively in the face of setbacks. In the words of Cheryl Strayed, it’s “a must-read for anyone who wants to face their fears, fulfill their dreams, and find a better way forward.”‘
I’m not quite through this one, but this book has hands-on exercises, which add to the experience and get you thinking about your life, choices, and dreams. It is very eye-opening.

Homemaking Harmony:
One of the perpetual challenges in our home has been keeping the floors clean and free from dust lint and crumbs, which seem to accumulate faster than I can keep up with. Between our daughter coming in and out, to the man of the house bringing his work (dirt) home, finding a cleaning tool that could keep pace with our busy household felt almost impossible.
That was until I discovered the “flippr” – a cleverly designed broom that transforms into a cordless vacuum at the flick of a wrist. This innovative tool has been a game-changer for us. Not only does it allow for quick sweeps, but with its easy transformation, picking up larger debris or tackling unexpected messes has never been simpler. It’s streamlined our cleaning routine, making our home feel more manageable and leaving us with more time to enjoy the moments that matter most. For any family feeling overwhelmed by the daily dance of dirt and debris, the “flippr” might just be the helping hand you’ve been waiting for.
Craft Corner:
My daughter received a “dot painting” craft kit a little while back. She has decided this is the week she wants to do ALL the dot paintings… every day. It’s a lot. :/ But, she enjoys it, so it’s worth the mess.
I will say that this particular set only comes with tiny little bottles of paint. She barely got through the paper and canvas that were provided in the kit before the paint ran out. But, we shook as much of that paint out of those little bottles as we possibly could.
Tempura paint is easily washable until it fully dries. This is why I believe that it is a great choice for children’s arts & crafts.
I don’t think our set is worth the price since the paint ran out so quickly. I am linking to a set of tempura paints, art scrapers, and watercolor paper. This way you can create your own set and the paint will last much longer.
